Stand-Alone Searcher Application
Purpose
The stand-alone web application functions as a research and workshop tool that can be used independently from the Searcher Installation. It will have the key functionalities of the installation, as well as a few additional ones that should include:
- Ability to send a semantic search query to the search of a collection
- Ability to add explicit collection items by the input of an object identification number
- An itemized list of key meta-data of the images
- Ability to save an image constellation as a published result
- Ability to view published panels
Furthermore the stand-alone application might offer:
- user configurations (tuning search)
- statistics on published results
- Aternative pannel generations using the same search data
The stand-alone application will be used as an internal research and workshop tool and form the basic structure for future mobile interfacing (via captive-portal hotspot) of the searcher installation.
Concept Sketch
Concept Sketch Elements
- Unique ID: DMG_Panel A_#####
- serving as a temporary generated title/unique panel id nr.
- DMG stands for Collection (in this case Design Museum Ghent**
- Panel A stands for Image Cpmposition/ Layout
- subsequent numbers stands for generated unique id nr.
- Sematic Query/Title Bar: In Search Of... Serendipity
- Concept for both a search query/title bar for each panel
- Serendipity as a greyed-out search prompt / can be explicitly filled with user text
- Upon searching with user semantic query, all selected items are combined with query/title text to be used as search imput
- Need to define if the search query bar remains filled or refreshes after each search
- Publishing an atlas should require a final saved query/title
- Image Atlas Interaction
- Image interaction follows a similar layout as in Searcher installation
- Ability to view images Full screen pop-up media viewer (via clicking on image?) and perhaps directly being able to view description
- Selecting images either by clicking on them or clicking toggle dot under searcher (as in physical installation)
- Seperate info/meta data button?
- Ability to add explicit collection item to replace current image
- Search / Previous / Publish Buttons
- Publish button should require a title - and upon publishing Panel Query/Title + Selected Items are used for lingering search
- Author(s) needed for publishing / Optional short caption to add to the panel?
- Attitional Pages
- Archive of Panels - Are they re-editable or only for viewing or do they generate a pdf?
- Project Info Page - How to use search tool, Information on Searcher project, team, methods
